Crisis Support and the 988 Lifeline: A Resource for Participants and Facilitators
If you or someone in your SMART Recovery meeting is feeling overwhelmed, distressed, or in crisis, help is available right away.
988 is the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States. It connects people to trained counselors who can listen, help you feel grounded, and connect you to local resources if needed. You do not have to be suicidal to reach out — 988 is there for emotional distress, mental health crises, or moments when things just feel like too much.
You can:
-
Call 988
-
Text 988
Support is free, confidential, and available 24/7.
As a facilitator, you can share this resource with participants. You can also use it yourself. Reaching out for support is a strength, not a failure. Counselors can help people talk through what’s going on and point them toward additional supports in their community.
