Finding the Right Meeting: SMARTfinder Filters Explained
Finding the right meeting is easier when you know how to use these filters. Here's how.
Step 1: Start your search: Go to the SMARTfinder homepage and type in your city and state.

Step 2: See your results: You'll see a list of meetings within 50 miles of your location by default. Above the results, you'll notice a Filters button showing how many filters are currently active (for example, "Filters (2)").
Step 3: Open the filters: Click the word Filters to see all the ways you can narrow your search: Program, Audience, Type, Day of Week, Language, Location, Distance, National Meetings, and Verifications.

Step 4: Apply your filters: Choose the filters that fit what you're looking for, then click Apply to update your results. You can click Start Over anytime to clear everything and begin again.
Program
Use this filter to find a meeting built around the program that's right for you.
4-Point Recovery — SMART Recovery's flagship secular program for anyone working through an addictive behavior, whether substance-related or a process/activity addiction (like gambling or shopping). Meetings focus on four areas: building and maintaining motivation, coping with urges and cravings, managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and living a balanced life.
Family & Friends — For family members, partners, and friends impacted by a loved one's addictive behavior. These meetings draw on SMART's 4-Point tools along with the CRAFT approach and the Invitation to Change approach, helping you connect with others and find practical tools for coping and/or supporting your loved one, as you choose.
Successful Life Skills — Builds on the 4-Point and InsideOut programs to help you improve your life holistically, focusing on practical skills and solutions rather than labels or diagnoses.

Some individuals with non-White identities may prefer to identify as "members of the global majority."

Online — Meetings held virtually, joined via the Join Now button on the listing (unless otherwise noted on the listing).
In-Person — Meetings held at a physical location.
Note: Hybrid meetings (offered both in-person and online) will appear in results for both Online and In-Person searches.
Day of Week
Find meetings by the day they occur, Sunday through Saturday.
Language
Find meetings by the language in which they're conducted. Available languages will vary depending on current meeting offerings.
Location
Shows the city and state you searched for. You can update this field to search a different area — for example, if you don't see an option that meets your needs in your current location, try a nearby city to see more results.
Distance
Sets how far from your location to search for meetings. Options range from 10 to 1,000 miles: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, or 1,000 miles. The default is 50 miles, but you can narrow it down to 10 miles or widen it up to 1,000 miles depending on how many results you'd like to see.
National Meetings
National Meetings are large-capacity online meetings that show up in your results no matter what area you searched. They can hold up to 300 participants and sometimes reach that capacity.

Only National Meetings — Shows only National Meetings in your results.
Hide National Meetings — Removes National Meetings from your results, showing only local meetings instead.
Verifications
Check this box to show only meetings that offer attendance verification — useful if you need documentation of your attendance (for example, for a court, employer, or treatment program). Meetings that offer verification will show one of two icons in your results:
Pathcheck — Instant verification. Complete the verification form to get your attendance verification right away.
Facilitator-provided verification — Ask the meeting facilitator directly for your attendance verification.
